Lipotec Debuts Novel Peptides

• The latest developments from Lipotec are peptides Delisens and Telangyn directed at treating skin disorders that characterizes sensitive skin. Marine-based HA-booster Hyanify is also among Lipotec’s new active ingredients.

Delisens,Telangyn and Hyanify are new innovations from Lipotec.
Delisens relieves itching while it helps sensitive skin to recover its physiological tolerance threshold: it proved in vitro to highly counteract the release of inflammatory cytokines induced by cosmetic allergens. This novel hexapeptide attenuates neurogenic inflammation by modulating the activity of Proteinase-Activated Receptor 2 (PAR-2), crucially involved in the processing of pruritic and/or inflammatory signals. Delisens mitigates the stinging and burning effect induced by capsaicin and acid lactic on the skin, as shown in vivo. Moreover, it protects the human dermal fibroblasts against UV radiation and stimulates the proliferation of human keratinocyte contributing to the restoring of the barrier function and the integrity of skin tissue.

Telangyn decreases the appearance of facial redness by reducing the levels of interleukins IL-6 and IL-8, which are induced by the antimicrobial peptide LL-37. The expression of this antimicrobial peptide is abnormally high in skin disorders with erythema and dilated bloods vessels, such as rosacea. Moreover, and thanks to its significant anti-collagenase and anti-tyrosinase activities, Telangyn helps to improve skin firmness, elasticity and the evenness of skin tone. This is a tetrapeptide, which also provides a high photoprotective effect to the skin, lowering cell damage.
From marine biotechnology through biofermentation, Hyanify is an exopolysaccharide with efficacy in boosting the synthesis of hyaluronic acid in the skin, offering an efficient replenishing effect against wrinkles. As show in vivo, nasolabial folds reduced in only 14 days of treatment with 1% Hyanify Solution, according to the company. HA availability decreases with aging, altering the balance between synthesis and degradation, which leads to dehydration of the skin and volume loss.

BASF Launches Inorganic UV Filter
• BASF has rolled out Z-Cote LSA, its latest inorganic, broad-spectrum ultraviolet (UV) light filter. Z-Cote LSA provides broad-spectrum protection from long wave UVA rays and medium wave UVB rays by physically scattering, reflecting and absorbing solar radiation.

The filter is hypoallergenic, making it an ideal ingredient for use in daily skin moisturizers and beach wear products formulated for sensitive skin. Z-Cote LSA and its increased particle size complements BASF’s current Z-Cote product line, offering excellent transparency and outstanding dispersing properties to address previously unmet market needs.

“With broad spectrum protection that fulfills the new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards and its unique particle size, Z-Cote helps solve an unmet market need,” said Al Pearce, senior marketing manager, BASF Personal Care. “Z-Cote LSA allows formulators to develop safe and gentle sun protection for daily wear and sunscreen applications.”

New Panel for UV-Exposed Skin
• Genemarkers recently debuted its first Gene Expression Panel for UV-Exposed Skin.
The development of a panel allows researchers to analyze the gene expression in response to UV exposure using an in vitro skin model system.

According to the company, two separate panels have been created, early response(2 or 6 hours post exposure) and 24-hour response. The gene panel includes 92 genes that have been validated using a ~2 MED UVA/UVB exposure. The test is run with MatTek full thickness skin equivalents and includes 4 replicates per treatment, comparison against a control group and statistical analysis of gene expression data.

New Information About Alpaflor Edelweiss at DSM
• The DSM Personal Care Business Unit has revealed new findings on its organic certified skin care ingredient Alpaflor Edelweiss. According to the company, this product harnesses the protective power of the rare Alpine edelweiss and allows formulation with a new level of protection for an ultimate skin sensation.

Edelweiss is a real Alpine “survival star” that grows at altitudes of up to 3,000m, where it is exposed to high levels of UV radiation. And, it has to contend with extremes of temperature and large changes in humidity. Edelweiss is therefore an expert in self-protection. The DSM Personal Care Business Unit has studied how edelweiss has built up natural resilience to such harsh climatic conditions.

Edelweiss produces exceptional amounts of protective metabolites. Alpaflor Edelweiss, extracted from a specially cultivated, unique edelweiss strain called Leontopodium alpinum helvetia, has been shown in particular to stimulate key proteins in the epidermis, which are responsible for the optimal protection and regeneration capabilities of the skin, according to the company.

DSM’s studies reveal that high levels of chlorogenic acid and luteolin derivatives provide Leontopodium alpinum helvetia with its unique capacity to protect and regenerate the skin’s natural barrier. Leontopodic acid particularly—discovered for the first time in Leontopodium alpinum—has extraordinary antioxidant, radical-scavenging and protection properties.
